1.What do you think west means?explain.In my opinion I think that west means that it takes alot of courage to stand up for something. That you have to be brave or have the valor to become nonconformist. That could also show that you are independed and could do many thing by your self. I also think that having enemies may happen, but they would never learn to be against the grain only being with the grain.
2.What do you respond to this quote? Explain.
In my opinion I will agree with him. I will agree with him in many different ways. For example I agree when he said that it takes courage to cut against the grain because that is really true for all of us. I also think that courage will and could help you do many things you never imagin.

Janet, this is a good start on your journal response assignment. Remember to be very specific - give examples that illustrate your opinions. Also in part #2, don't keep talking about the quote, instead - respond - apply the ideas of the quote to something else - like a personal experience, literature, world events, etc.
